There can be few more moving experiences than meeting the brown-eyed gaze of the hugely endangered mountain Gorilla. This is what makes gorilla tracking in Africa one of many people’s top bucket list experiences.
You may have to trek for some hours for the reward of a magical encounter with a 220kg ‘silverback’, but the euphoria of the hour-long audience will match the anticipation.
Uncontrolled hunting and the accelerating human encroachment into its habitat mean that the mountain gorilla is on the brink of extinction. However, numbers are once again slowly increasing.
In Volcanoes National Park the Gorillas are highly protected. This is the best place for Gorilla tracking in the world. The Volcanoes National Park lies only 2 hours away from Kigali so it is easier to combine a short visit to Rwanda for the Gorilla tracking with a safari in Kenya or Tanzania. Some places to visit are The Memorial Genocide Museum and a city tour of Kigali.

Sutton Harris– :
Amazing trip, one of the best of my life!! Seeing the gorillas was incredible and the trek was beautiful. Be prepared to hike as the terrain can be rough! They did carry a loved one up the mountain who would have been unable to trek themselves. Highly recommend!!

I have had the pleasure of traveling with Julius and his team from African Habitat Explorer on four adventures over the past ten years. Each has been memorable for many reasons, but every time I return to Africa, I do so with the plan to use Julius as my guide. He has put together a small group of people who love what they do, are knowledgeable about the wildlife and the people, and are excited to share their experience. My last two visits have included the gorillas in Rwanda and the genocide museum in Kigali. Both are extremely moving and memorable experiences. Whether your climbing Kilimanjaro or doing a camping safari in the vast parks of Kenya and Tanzania, you should add Rwanda to your trip. Consider contacting African Habitat Explorer for your adventure. They have never disappointed me nor any of the friends and family whom have joined me on journeys to Africa. On trips to the Galapagos, Machu Picchu, The Amazon, Iceland, Europe, and many places in the US, I have experienced lots of very qualified guides. None of them compare to my friend Julius Odhiambo.

I cannot say enough about Julius and the African habitat explorers.
My husband and I have been lucky enough to go on two excursions with Julius and his team.
We have seen the big five, my husband climbed mount Kenya, we have tracked to see the gorillas.
Julius is not only a beautiful person in and out but I can truly say he is a dear friend.
Julius‘s team is wonderful from the food they have made us, to washing your clothes, to the wonderful team drivers that stop and tell you everything you need to know about their wonderful country and animals.
If you are deciding on what out fitters to go with ,you do not have to look any farther. I would rate Julius and his team a ten. I hope to come back to see Julius again. Sid and Terri Jones❤️
